Truckers use them all the time. Some people just buy the handheld units for portability. There are a few people who also use the cb to speak to others in their area without the phone. I had a neighbor that would come across my speakers everytime he would turn his unit on. I would like to keep one in my car for long distance trips so I can hear the truckers talk about the cops and accidents ahead of me.
Cobra would be your best bet but GE models arent bad either.
